Seeing children triumph never gets old!
I have all sorts of young artists in my class - well-behaved, hungry to try new things, those with ants in their pants, meticulous, messy and on and on. It reminds me of our society - quite the hodge podge aren't we? But we all do something well!!
In class, I purposely expose the children to a variety of styles and mediums. Some may require attention to detail while others push imagination and trust in the process. This lesson utilized a wax resist with a black wash - it was important that the children used a heavy hand and fill the paper. I knew it would be apparent with the end result just who could jump in and who merely dipped their toes in!!
Abigail Roberts, whose art is featured, always jumps in! Sometimes without looking :) But the other students were amazed at her piece after we applied the black wash - It definitely came to life - she was deliberate and sure of herself and it showed... I learned from her that day!!
